How we’ve made these t-shirts better for the environment
The t-shirts and fabric
The t-shirts are black Earth Positive brand 100% organic cotton t-shirts. Organic cotton is grown sustainably and without the use of artificial pesticides or fertilisers which can contaminate nearby water systems. Earth Positive t-shirts are manufactured solely using sustainable energy generated from wind and solar power. Read more on their website: http://www.earthpositive.se/about.html
The t-shirts were printed by hand in the UK in a workshop fuelled solely by renewable energy. All the inks they used (including the glow-in-the-dark ink) are water-based, which is the environmentally friendly alternative to plastisol. Many screen printers use plastisol printing despite the damaging effect on the environment, which leads to non-recyclable plastic waste and printed t-shirts that can’t easily be recycled or broken down at the end of their life. Waterbased inks are biodegradable, and if dealt with in the correct way, will release less harmful toxins into the environment than the plastisol alternative.
The screens were created using a direct-to-screen system instead, this allows for the total bypass any film usage at all, and saves consuming hundreds of meters of plastic film every month. Once the job was printed the mesh of the screens was recycled to be used for someone else’s design.
Another advantage of screen printing is that the ink has actually been absorbed into the t-shirt fabric, unlike a transfer print which just sits on top. If cared for properly, this will result in a design that stays vibrant for longer than the transfer alternative.
Please note that, as these t-shirts are printed by hand, there may be some very minor variations in colouring and image placement. Please also note that the image print size is the same across all t-shirt sizes, ie. the picture takes up more of the front of the Age 5-6 t-shirt than it does for the 9-10 t-shirt.

We only use fully recyclable cardboard boxes or Arofol brand climate neutral padded envelopes for shipping. We use envelopes just big enough for one t-shirt, so will generally have to ship t-shirts individually. If you would like to place an order for five or more, please use Harriet’s contact page to request a reduced shipping rate.
